I am heading the Research Group Entanglement of Complex Quantum Systems within the Theory Division at the Max-Planck-Institute of Quantum Optics. In our group, we apply concepts from quantum information, and in particular entanglement theory, to study the rich variety of physical phenomena observed in complex interacting quantum many-body systems:
we work towards a comprehensive classification of the different types of entangled quantum matter and their characterization from local properties, based on tensor networks;
we apply tensor network methods for the variational modelling and study of specific strongly correlated systems of interest;
we utilize tools from quantum complexity theory to understand the ultimate limitations to our ability to capture the behavior displayed by strongly correlated systems.
